This post is about the structure of Quran and some basic terms that are given in the beginning of my copy of this holy text.
1. Ayat : means Verse. There are 6237 Ayat (This is a debatable number) in my copy of Quran.
2. Surah : means Chapters. There are 114 Surahs in Quran. Their names are given below in the table including how many verses and Ruku each chapter posses.
3. Ruku : means Sections. Each of the 114 Surah of Quran are further divided into Ruku. Each Ruku contains a fixed number of Ayat.
4. Hijb : means Part/Section. The whole text of Quran has been divided into 30 Hijb.
The following table contains the names of all 114 Surah along with the number of Ayat and Ruku they have.

There are 14 places in Quran, where doing a Sajda is a must.
"Sajda" is an Arabic word which means one has to lie stretched out on the ground with one's face downward in the direction of the Kaaba at Mecca which is usually done during the daily prayers. One has to make sure that the forehead, nose, both hands, knees and all toes touching the ground together.
There are certain other rules which must be followed while you are reading Quran. I will put them in my next post. This post was long overdue. Work is killing me but still I am taking time out to learn a few things about Quran, which includes lot of Googling, meeting people and talking to them about various things that I am coming across.
Initially I thought, I would keep 30 days to sail through Quran but now even 45 days look tough. Too much work and traveling is playing a major role in this which can't be helped.

But, yes I will blog for exact 45 days to tell everyone that what I have learned from it. I am planning to take up one Hijb at a time and will read all the Ayat and their interpretation simultaneously.
